学修目標(到達目標) The goals for this course are:
-to develop an ability to communicate with a diverse range of people in English.
-to distinguish between different styles of writing including academic, formal and informal correspondence by letter and email, and narratives.
-to acquire skills for quickly understanding the gist of written and spoken English.
-to be able to respond appropriately to different types of written and spoken English.
-to develop autonomy in language study for life-long learning.
授業概要(教育目的・準備学修・事後学修・履修要件等) Students will mainly be engaged in speaking and listening activities, with some reading and writing. Speaking activities will take place in pairs and small groups to increase opportunities for practice and build confidence. Students will also read, write, and listen to English online (e-learning) during class time and as homework.
授業内容 Speaking: in-class pair and group practice
Listening: songs, dialogs, narratives, film clips, and online materials (e-learning)
Reading: prints, medical English, and online material
Writing: film response essays and listening reports

授業形式・授業形態 A student-centered approach will be used to activate students’ existing knowledge of English.
成績評価方法(成績評価基準を含む) Students will be evaluated according to their attendance and in-class participation (30%), completed assignments and in-class exams (30%), and the final exam (40%). The final exam will consist of writing and listening sections based on content studied during the course. Students who are absent from more than 30% of the classes will be disqualified from taking the final exam. Normally, a score of at least 60 points on the final exam is required to pass the course. However, students who lose points for incomplete or late assignments during the semester may be required to score well above 60 points on the final exam to pass the course.
テキスト(教科書等) Prints will be supplied by the teacher. Students are required to bring a folder with all course prints and written assignments to each lesson.
